What a delightful venue for outdoor music, this eclectically decorated patio just outside Fremont's History House. Just as delightful are our hosts, John and Nancy Nordstrand, John as producer of the concert series and MC, and Nan, as photographer and welcoming presence. We've enjoyed this concert series for six years now, sometimes as audience, and sometimes as performers. The series features local acoustic musicians in a free outdoor Sunday afternoon concert, which incidentally coincides with the Fremont Sunday Market. It's open to the public, and will continue through the month of July, except on the 4th. (On the 4th, many local musicians will be playing at the Wooden Boats Festival -- another opportunity to take in some local music!) History House also hosted Victory Music Day in the Sculpture Garden surrounding the Fremont Solstice Parade on Saturday, June 19th. Ron Dalton pulled together the duo Silver Lining, bluegrassers Down the Road, the howlin' blues band, Hounds@Bay and the Eric Miller Band. The celebrations were going on before and after the parade, in spite of the rain, right there under cover in the Sculpture Garden. June's Musicians included:
Michael Guthrie and Bob Nelson
Percy Hilo and Friends, Larry 'n' Lynette
The Hayburners, Burgundy Pearl
Larry Murante and Kevin Jones Above photos by Nancy Nordstrand So far this year, the above duos and acts are what you've missed -- but don't miss any more!! Upcoming Sunday concerts are: 2010 Music in the Sculpture Garden - Musician Roster July 11, 2-4PM
The Other Band, Hounds@Bay July 18, 2-4 PM
Eric Apoe, Jen Youngs July 25, 2-4 PM
The Whateverly Brothers And the concert series is only part of the History House. An educational center, with interactive displays of Seattle and her neighborhoods, the History House is open Thursday through Sunday 12-5PM. Special tours can be arranged to visit and experience the history of Seattle exhibited within. A little more about: The History House Sculpture Garden includes an original 6 foot X 12 foot chunk of "The Berlin Wall", a "Fire Engine" - destined for Georgia in the former satellite state of the Soviet Union, "Willy"- a 15 foot model orca whale and "The Safe" - discovered beneath the Dubliner Tavern. All of these and more surround the stage that is the pedestal for the Music in the Sculpture Garden music series. These events are open to the public and free of charge. The Music in the Sculpture Garden music series is sponsored in part by the Fremont Chamber of Commerce. History House of Greater Seattle is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. It is supported by the Burke Foundation, Grants from the City of Seattle and King County and tax-deductible donations from the public.
